i have a 1990 honda accord ex with A/T. the sport shift light stays on all the time and the car stays in 3rd gear when driving wont upshift or downshift. it does still have reverse. the red lite stays on all the time on the tcu so i am assuming i have a bad tcu (fried) i went to junk yard and the only one i found that wasnt fried was out of a 92 accord and i was wondering if the tcu's are interchangable and why or why not?

For different year models, some are equipped with the S mode whereas others are not.

If the 1992 TCM is equipped with S mode, then it is possible for it to be compatible.

You are correct about a possible TCM fault. Remove the cover and check for leaking capacitors. Replacing them works.
