Brake pedal is low sometimes and other times very hard to push down.

Sometimes when I apply the brakes the pedal goes down far but it stops, other times the pedal is very firm and does not stop, any help as to what needs to be done would be greatly appreciated.

IT'S POSSIBLE YOUR MASTER CYLINDER IS ALLOWING FLUID TO LEAK BY THE PISTON INTERNALLY....USUALLY MEANS REPLACING THE MASTER CYLINDER

SOMETIMES YOU CAN VERIFY THIS BY EZing THE PEDAL DOWN VS "PUNCHING IT FAST"

ANOTHER POSSIBILITY IS AIR IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM

HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR BRAKE FLUID LEVEL?

check the vacuem at the booster.low vacuem causes a hard pedal.if you adjust the the rear drum brakes will raise the pedal.if it applys, you need to check your brake operation.all 4 tires should lock up.if the master cyl. was bad the petal would just go to the floor.
