My 1995.5 Isuzu Rodeo (2WD, 2.6 lts. engine)corners well in the mountain roads where I live, but at manufacturer's recommended tire pressure (26 psi) it squeaks mostly and fishtails sometimes.
I found that inflating the tires ( Michelin P225/75R15) at 32 psi front and rear it takes the curves much better, with no lateral displacement and increased mileage per gallon (24 versus 21 mpg combined city/Hwy/mountain); I have done that for the last 8 years.
The tires wear as usual, a little more on the edges than the center, but that is normal in these roads.
I am taking a class in mature driving and read there the manufacturer's recommendation should be used.
Question:
What could be the set backs of the higher pressure?
Longer time for braking on wet roadways?
Risk of blowout?
Others?
Thanks for the help!
