I have a 1998 Sentra ga16de automatic 228,000 miles. the plastic with three spots where the hoses connect to had broken one of the three arms that a hose connects to. Its located behind the driver side rear tire by the black box and where you fill the fuel. I looked at AutoZone and over a hundred for the new part that has three arms for the hoses to connect. I will send a picture next. If that will also cause gas mileage issues?

Hello, I'm Danny.

Having a leak in the evaporative system won't necessarily cause a loss of performance or mileage. It will however turn the check engine light on. With the check engine light on that will prevent you from passing the bi-annual smog check that might be required depending in which sate you live in. The evaporative emission system is in place to keep any gasoline fumes from the fuel tank from entering into the atmosphere. The system basically recycles all the gasoline fumes from the fuel system and sends it back through the engine to be re-burned during the combustion process. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
