install heater core ?

Honestly, I would guess that it is out of production for your vehicle. You can start by checking at a dealer. If they can't get it, you will need to check a salvage yard. Here is how you replace the heater core. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find.

Thanks for the help. I used the foam sealer pieces from an air conditioner I bought this summer. I didn,t need it and never tossed it out.Works great. I wish I would of known I didn,t have to take the dash apart in pieces and could of taken the whole thing out as one piece. But its back together now and hopefully everything thing will work right. Time will tell.

I need to remove my heater core, what all will I have to remove to get to it?

my coolant is nasty looking, I think my heater core is stopped up.

Hi:
This is a 5+ hour job. Basically, you need to remove the dashboard to get to it. I would recommend taking it to a mechanic for this job.

I had to take the dash off to put in a heater core and now the interior lights, radio, will not shut off and the daylight running lights, fuel gadge, temp gadge will not work what could it be

Make sure you reconnected any wires/wire harnesses that you may have disconnected or accidentally knocked loose during dash removal. Also check your fuses. Did you disconnect your battery before disassembling the dash?

replaced the heater core in 98 chevy s10, the heat control knob will not adjust it blows hot air. Appeared that we hooked everything back up, any suggestions on what we could have missed? Could the heater core be bad? never had this problem before replacing the heater core.

this can be either vacuumor electric operated. check for one of the actuators not hooked up or not workingif vacuum check for hose off if electric chpull haveac fus for 60 seconds first then reinstall it sometimes will reset actuator.

It is a somewhat big job. Here are the directions I was able to find for you:




Disconnect the negative battery cable and properly drain the engine cooling system to a level below the heater core.
Disconnect the heater hoses from the core tubes near the cowl.


The instrument panel carrier is designed not only to provide access to parts through removal of the carrier components, but the carrier will also tilt downward as a complete assembly to allow access from the top. If this is desired, remove the retainer screws along the top and bottom of the carrier assembly (refer to the figure). The instrument panel will then tilt as an assembly into the cab. It is necessary to unbolt and lower the steering column from the carrier to allow for maximum movement of the instrument panel.

The instrument panel must be removed or repositioned for access to the heater core case. Unbolt and either tilt the instrument panel forward or disengage the instrument panel components and remove the panel from the vehicle. In most cases, tilting the panel forward should be sufficient for the necessary access, but if necessary remove the panel refer to Body & Trim in this guide.
Unfasten the heater core rear case retaining screws, then remove the rear case for access to the heater core.
Loosen the retainers and remove the heater core retaining straps.
Remove the heater core and seals.


To install:

Install the heater core and seals, taking care not to damage the core tubes when inserting them through the cowl.
Install and secure the core retaining straps.
Install the rear case and secure using the screws.
Reposition and secure the instrument panel and components. Tighten the cowl screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm) and the lower instrument panel screws to 66 inch lbs. (7.5 Nm).
Connect the heater hoses to the core tubes.
Connect the negative battery cable, then properly refill the engine cooling system.
Run the engine at normal operating temperature, then check for leaks.

So far so good.Takin the rest of the night off lol.Been workin on it for 5 1/2 hours already.Everything is diconnected as far as I think on the inside of the cab.Except for the parking brake cable (don't know how to disconnect that,got me confused).All thats left is to drain the system,finish unbolting in engine compartment,pop cores cherry, and reinstall everything.Question: Do I have to remove the balck box lookin thing that houses the core or can I just remove the front panel and get to it?Thanks for your input!

You should be able to get to it by just removing the front panel.

Five and a half hours... they are a pain!

How do you replace the Heater Core in the Chevy S-10 pickup?

Disconnect negative battery cable.
Drain engine coolant.
Disconnect heater hoses at core, and plug core openings.
Remove instrument panel.
Disable air bag system.
Remove instrument cluster trim plate.
Move tilt steering column down (if equipped), set parking brake and move automatic transmission gear selector to low (if equipped).
Remove left underdash hush panel.
Remove Data Link Connector (DLC) and Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module connectors.
Remove center underdash hush panel.
Disconnect park brake release cable from instrument panel.
Disconnect park brake cable from ratchet mechanism.
Remove right underdash hush panel.
Remove lighter and accessory outlets, if equipped.
Remove courtesy light.
Remove knee bolster.
Partially pull A/C-heater control panel and radio to disconnect connectors on back of A/C-heater control panel and radio.
Remove 4 steering column retaining bolts and lower steering column.
Remove speaker and defroster grilles.
Remove 9 instrument panel support bolts, including brake pedal bracket support bolt.
Remove electrical connectors.
Remove instrument panel.
Remove rear case screws and rear case.
Remove straps.
Remove heater core.
Remove seals.

To install, reverse removal procedure.
Fill cooling system.
Start engine and check for leaks

what is the easiest way to replace the heater core in a 1996 chevy s-10 blazer

I have just taken the truck apart to replace the heater core and now that it is put back together the gauges on the dash will not work. Any hints?

check to see if the guages are plugged in as you had to remove the dash to install the heater core. and check to see if you have any broken ground wires....
