If not, then chances are something did not get installed properly.
Is this something you have done yourself or was it done at a shop?

If it was done at a shop, you will need to contact them to resolve this issue.

As for the gear changing issue, what does it do? Can you start it and get it out of park and it does not move?

Low / no fluid will prevent the engine from shifting. So, checking the fluid is a very good first step.
