I removed the old alternator and installed a new one, same model numbers, amperage, sub-model numbers, etc. When we jump the battery, the engine starts, the serpentine belt spins, the outer wheel of the new alternator spins but the inner part of the alternator does not spin. Why? The van completely quit working; locks didn't work, windows didn't work, gauges failed. And that may have damaged the PCM? I checked all the ACC fuses in all three fuse boxes and none of them are damaged, so I don't think this is a wiring harness (alternator to engine fuse box) problem, but there was some white residue on the end of the plastic part that connects to the four prongs on the alternator. The nut installed on the harness that ends in a metal o-ring might not be conductive. would that cause this problem? Please don't say it s a defective alternator.
