Engine revs going up and down at idle then shutting off

2003 ford expedetion eddie baur the service engine light came on and when you come to a stop the idle goes up and down shaking the car and then shuts off

have you checked what codes are causing the light to come on? If you have codes P0171 and P0174( system lean banks 1 & 2) then check for a vacuum leak at the back of the motor, there is a 90 degree elbow connected to the PCV hose that leaks, a very common problem on this car

Have the computer scanned to identify where the problem is coming from. IT could be a vacuum leak as well as an Idle Air Control valve (IAC).
