I have removed the half shaft(axle) in an attempt to replace a bad rear wheel bearing. I do NOT have BMW tool # XXXXXXXX??? to remove the old bearing. I have tried to pound it out with a blunt tool in my air chisel but it doesn't move. It looks like it should slide straight out but is pressed in. I don't want to use heat for fear of damaging the housing or hub. I have a press to get the bearing off the hub & install the new one once it is out and I am assuming I can pull the assembly back in with a large bolt & washers. Will this work & mostly, how do I get the old one out without the BMW tool?

The hub comes out of the bearing with a big slide hammer, there is no other way. Except replacing the entire trailing arm assembly.
