Engine Performance problem

I have a problem when I drive my car the idle or accelration is really high. For example when it is in park the idle is like I have my foot on the gas at its maxium. I can't get it to come down until I park and allow to cool down. Is it a spark plug issue? Also it wont start after I park. Im thinking because It feels like I put my foot on the gas all the way while it is in park at every light I come to. I don't know why th eidle goes up and down while I am driving and In park
