my car has a 350 cid with a th350 tranny this a.m. I started the engine and heard a nolse similar to a piece of metal inside a can, no regular beat just every second or three.I placed the transmission selector into drive and then reverse and the engine started to lug down & stall, put the selector back into park the engine resumed the idle speed and ran fine...
I shut off engine, took car out of park and was able to push the car forward and backward by hand .
My question is does this sound like a part of torque converter has failed or could it be something else

it's probably an internal part on the transmission. torque converters do fail but take it to a trans shop for proper diagnosis.
