Clutch pedal goes to floor with no resistance.

1984 Z28 Camaro 350 5 sp ~ 125000 miles

When I press in the clutch pedal, it goes all the way to the floor with no resistance. This happened once before several years ago, it was the slave cylinder then. Just wondering if there were any other causes for this behavior? It will still start if the pedal is pushed in, but shifting is impossible while the engine is running.

First place I would look at is the slave/servo-then its M/C.

The problem with the third generation Camaro Z28 is Chevrolet didn't have a manual transmission for the car that was capable of handling the power of the 5.7L. A five speed manual was only found on the V6 or 5.0L models.

Was the transmission changed by the previous owner, or did you change it?

I replaced the motor, not the transmission, however I discovered the problem from some closer investigation.

The clip that holds the master cylinder rod to the clutch pedal had come detached. I replaced it and everything is good.

although just recently i am having difficulty downshifting to 2nd from 3rd, i can go from 3rd to 1st then 2nd and all is ok, but not directly to 2nd from 3rd. I think that the syncronizers are going out or gone.

I know what you mean. I have a little trouble shifting to reverse if I don't shift to first to begin with, and also down-shifting into second is a little tough here and there.

My 95 Camaro has seen quite a few miles, so the clutch and transmission are simply needing changed by now.
