1998 Chevy Cavalier engine wont completely crank

my old battery was completly dead so i got a new battery and now my lights and everything comes on but when i crank it doesnt start up all the way. and i dont know whats wrong with it someone told me it might be out of gas and the my gas gauge might not be working could that be the problem?

Spray some starting fluid in TB intake, if car runs a few seconds, then it is a fuel problem.

If car is out of gas, you can ruin the fuel pump by running it out of gas, as gasoline cools the FP.
