1993 Chevy Corsica Cars shuts off while driving

Hi,I have a corsica v6 and while driving on 20 miles or longer distances it shuts off.It will not crank until it sits for about 10-20 minutes,varies.When I return the road after a little distance or couple of miles,it repeats.Periodically it will jerk/sputter before it dies.I had a diagnostic and were told it is the transmission which I am doubting or do not think so.Is something heating up? where to start looking? Thanks
