Brakes problem
2002 Chevy Malibu 6 cyl 65000 miles

My brake pedal won't depress usually the first thing in the morning and I have only been having the problem in the winter. It has happened when I first tried to depress the brake to put the car in reverse to back out of the driveway or after I put the car in drive. This only happens for less than a minute and then the brakes seem to work fine. What could be causing this? Is this a costly repair?

Have you checked your master cylinder for the proper level of brake fluid???

This could be moisture in your brake fluid, which could freeze over night. As you press the brake pedal, it'll dislodge and heat up any ice in the system and then they'll function fine until they sit over night again.

You could flush your own brake system if you are up to the task. Instead of purchasing a "One-man" brake bleeder, you could rent one from AutoZone or another parts store or shop.

If detailed instructions don't come with the kit, write back and I'll walk you through it.

If you elect to take your car to a shop, then the price will vary greatly, possibly as high as $200 bucks.

If I've helped you, please take the time to vote for me as my reputation pays my bills. Thanx, Ernest.
