1992 Chrysler Le Baron Headlights - How to Replace Bulb?

The bulb is # 9004. It's very common. The number will be in giant digits on the box and little white numbers on the base of the bulb. There is a different bulb number that looks the same but the filament is different. I THINK the number is 9005. That's for GM vehicles. Don't use that one because it won't shine in the proper pattern.

Replacing it takes the better part of 30 seconds. Open the hood, reach behind the headlamp housing, pull the plug from the bulb. Turn the big plastic retainer ring counter-clockwise, as you're looking forward at it, about 1/8th turn. Pull the ring off, then tug the bulb straight out without twisting it. There's a rubber o-ring holding it in and sealing out moisture, so you'll have to pull kind of hard. Wiggling it up and down will help.

The base of the bulbs are round but have a flat spot with a little tab. That flat spot and tab go to the top. There's also a locating notch that insures the bulb is positioned properly, so you have to push it straight in without twisting it. Wiggling it will make it go in easier. Push the lock ring on and twist it to pull the bulb in all the way. You'll have to spin the ring until the three tabs line up with the three notches in the housing and it drops into place. Then, turn it about 1/8th turn until it clicks to lock it in place. Plug the connector back in and you're done.

I thought that ring might be it but it wasn't turning. I guess I just have to turn it harder. Thanks for your help!
