Good evening!

I replaced the thermostat, serpentine belt, and radiator on vehicle listed above. I did not replace the shroud and drove down the road. (Bad idea). The vehicle did not register overheating once the fan blade was caught on the upper radiator hose. Coolant was burning off the inside of the vehicle when I lifted the hood while vehicle was turned off. The radiator was not smoking and did not seem to be the source of the leak. How can I remove the upper radiator hose to be able to fit the shroud back in over the radiator?

Good evening,

You need to remove the clamps from the radiator and the thermostat hose to remove the upper hose. Then slide the shroud down and secure it.

Then install you new hose.

Thank you for your advice! The radiator is after market and seems to take up more room (which is great), but I am trying to find a thinner shroud that will still perform its main function. The materials under the hood are all from various times and owners. Solving the initial problem took quite a bit more effort, money, energy and patience than first presumed. I look forward to hearing any more constructive advice for a beginner mechanic who wants to keep a family vehicle in the ring a little bit longer. :)

There is no other option for the shroud.

Can you upload some pictures of what you see?

Yes sir. I will have to wait until I can get to the vehicle, but what I can tell you is I have a 1996 Ford Explorer radiator with a 302 engine. I have tried to cut hoses down to fit the space but the hoses that are made for a 1995 (factory year) Kink terribly when I try to fit them on to their fittings.

Okay, I attached a picture of the hose. Is this the hose you are using?

That picture looks pretty accurate. I'm using the hoses for a 1996 Explorer. I just ordered a new set that should arrive promptly.
