my truck started over heating so i put a new thermostat in it about 30min. ago. How do i now if the water pump is going out. I wigalled on the fan with out the belts on and it didnt seem to have any play.

normally a failing water pump will whine very loudly and also weep coolant. another way to tell is to feel the radiator hoses. if you can fail coolant being pushed through system than water pump is working.

I put in a gallon and a half of fluid in it and i started it up and a few minutes later (5) it started running out the radiator cap hole. I thought i would see the fluid ciculating?

if coolant is being pushed out of radiator cap opening than it is a sign of a cracked cylinder head or bad cylinder head gasket. You may need to run compression check on the cylinders.
