I recently performed a tune-up on my truck. It is a 390 CI V8. I put new points, plugs, condenser, rotor, cap and plug wires on. It still backfires and spits at high RPM. I think the problem is I did not know what to gap the points at or what to set the timing at. Do you have access and can you tell me the tune-up specs for my vehicle?

Ok set point a 17 thousands and timing should be 8-10 deg. Check firing order just to be sure is should be 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 and 1 thru 4 are on the left (drivers) side and 5 thru 8 on the right (pass.) side. Distributor turn counter clockwise. Hope this helps.

Darn it that is what I set the points at. Been awhile since I installed points but I seem to remember it being about there. Have not timed it yet. It starts well but just backfires through the carburator now and then. Appreciate the help.
