1998 Honda CRV Problems w/ Thermostat and Acceleration

My 98 Honda CR-v accelerates really slow, whenever I'm driving I have to press on the pedal all the way to get it the speed up to 50 and up. And whenever I'm I have been driving it for more than 15 minutes, I'll come to a stop and the thermostat will go up to H, and wont go down until I accelerate again. Anything I can do myself to fix this problem? Mechanics are way to expensive.

Hi openPALMstrike,

The overheating problem seems to be from insufficient coolant in the system. When engine is cold, remove radiator cap and check the coolant level. If it is low, top it up and start engine without closing the radiator cap. run for one minute and top up coolant whenever necessary till it won't take in anymore. Replace radiator cap.

If coolant is low, you need to check for leaks, a pressure test is necessary if the leak is small and not easily noted visually.

The sluggish acceleration could be due to
1. Badly adjusted acelerator cable
2. clogged fuel filter.
3. Ignition timing out of specs.
4. Spark plugs, cables and distributor.

When did you last check those?
