Instruments are pegged to right. According to Haynes schematic and Jaguar handbook and VCM in car says fuse in left-hand fuse box needs replacing. Checked all fuses in all fuse boxes; all o.k.

Yes, all instruments except tach and speedo are pegged completely to the right. I moved them over to the left manually; but when I turned key to run position they immediately pegged to the right again. Overvoltage? Blown resistor? I shall send a picture next time.

Thanks

On XJ6, sealed and non-serviceable gauges (speedometer, tachometer, battery condition, fuel level, oil pressure and coolant temperature) are driven by Air Cored Indicators controlled by the ECU.
Odometer display works in conjunction with trip computer and Vehicle Condition Monitor (VCM). It can be displayed by pressing CLEAR button either once or twice. When ignition is OFF, odometer is permanently displayed (but not illuminated).
Twenty-two warning lights are arranged in 4 groups on the panel. There are 7 lights each at left and right sides of instrument panel and 4 lights on each side of odometer at bottom of panel.
The 7 lights on right are primary warnings and illuminate Red. The 7 lights at left are secondary warnings and illuminate Amber. Lower 8 lights are a mix of status and warning lights. A light check cycle is initiated when ignition switch is turned from OFF to ON and lasts about 5 seconds. If any light stays on after check cycle, cause should be investigated before driving vehicle.
