When idling I get white smoke from my exhaust and it also smells like fuel. I leave black marks on the pavement under my exhaust too. Is this a problem with the head gasket?

Thanks.

99% of the time white smoke is an indication of coolant in the combustion chamber. Remove all the plugs and turn the engine over and see what cyl spits out water.

Look at the plugs the one that is different color will be the offending cyl.

Be careful as it will be warm. Let me know.

ok, when I've found the offending cyl. What do you suggest I do to fix it? Replace the gaskets? I was thinking for replacing all the gaskets when I replaced the Valve Cover anyway.

You have to take the cyl head off and see if you have a blown cyl head or a cracked something that causes water in the combustion chamber. losone

I don't seem to be losing any coolant and I haven't had a chance to do what you suggested before. But I thought I'd mention that I have messed with the carb and after messing with I got more white smoke than I had before and it runs rough. Could the carb be causing any of the white smoke?

Nope!! White smoke is coolant in the combustion chamber. A small amount makes a lot of smoke.

Before You pull the heads do a compression test, this could tell a lot, Water is white smoke, Intake manifold gasket could also be leaking. Exaust will also go into the radiator if you have a leaking head gasket. Check radiator for to much pressure with gauge. There is a die test for this also I forget the name of it. I am new to this forum, This looks like an old post you may have already found problem.
