My car was working fine, then I got up to go to work the next day and it wouldnt start. It sounds like it wants to, but it just doesnt. I guess you could say it cranks but doesnt start. We changed the sparkplugs-nothing, then all 3 ignition coils-nothing, then the ignition control module-still nothing, so we went and changed the crankshaft position sensor cause that was the last thing in the initial list of things that we were told go out. It still wont start. Its getting fuel and everything. I am out of ideas, and cant really find anything else, and my dad doesnt really know either. Can anyone here help me? This is my only car and I cant borrow from my family for ever.

If you have spark and are getting fuel if it doesn't start then it is internal engine problem check compression. Also you can check to see if you are getting fuel pop by seeing if the injectors are working with a test light when cranking one wire should have power and the other should be a ground on and off.

When you turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump run in the tank for 5 seconds?

Hello and thanks for donating

Disconnect the plug wires from the ignition coil and measure the resistance. Let me know what you get. If the cam and crank sensors were replaced as well as the ignition control module then there must be an issue with wiring or the anti theft system. Also check all fuses including in-line fuses if equipped.

Hi george giles, Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation

Check and test the coils, loose ignition module feed, ground connection and damaged system wiring, also inspect the CPS sensing teeth-

Car died after starting, will not start, will turn over, but acts like it's not getting gas. Any history with this problem on this model. Checked as many fuses as possible. Car has ran fine until now.

Hi:

You need to check for spark and fuel. One of them will be missing. Let me know what you find and we'll go from there. If you have anyway of having the computer scanned, it will help.

Hello,

This could be a problem with your vehicle's flywheel. If the teeth on your vehicle's flywheel are the teeth on the Bendix gear of your vehicle's starter, neither will mesh with the other and your vehicle will not start. The best way to check this is to remove your vehicle's starter and inspect the flywheel and the starter teeth. In the diagrams down below I have included an exploded diagram of your vehicle's crankshaft and associated parts with the flywheel highlighted for you, as well as step by step directions for the removal and installation of the starter.
Please go through these guides and inspect both the flywheel and starter and get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex

This is an intermittent problem. Car starts fine when cold. Occasionally, car won't start after having been driven for a while. Battery is strong (brand new) and cranks over.

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine atleast 3/16 away from ground-have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, Do you hear the fuel pump come On when you turn key on? If not check fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay if okay-check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, cap and rotor, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing

Do some testing at the crank relay, under the hood. Your owners manual should give you the location. Unplug the relay, turn the key to on, use a testlight, check for voltage at two of the terminals. Let us know what you find.

Wait till the security lite stops flashing, then try to start. It may take 10 minutes or so before it will stop flashing.

If two terminals at the relay were hot, then the computer may not be grounding the relay. The computer gets a crank sense signal from the ignition switch, tells the computer to ground the relay.

My wife drove her car home form her daughters (about 90 miles) parked in the drive on Friday. Sunday it would not start.

I have pushed it into the garage and heated it up. No good. Took off plug no 4 (middle front cylnder) it had spark and misted out moisture out of the cylnder. I took off the power coil packs and had the ing mod tested and it is fine.

A friend of mine thought the time was off but that is almost impossible. according to a local mechanic.

Another thought was the crank sensor but having spark rules that out so I am told.

The last thought was that the intake manifold has leaked and sucked up water into the manifold and is mixed in with the gas.

What do I do to find out what the problem is and how do I start the car?

You will love this. I had tried almost every thing you mentioned. I had spark, the fuel pump ran, had mist coming out of the cylinder after removing spark plug but just would not start. After readi

If the fuel pressure is correct and injectors are pulsing-check the valve and ignition timing could be off timing

I'd use a gage and check fuel pressure, the gas you see may be the initial prime? Is there an injector pulse, engine cranking, use noid lite? Does the starter circuit work ok?

welcome to the forum, will it crank? Engine cranking, do you have spark at the plugs? Use a gage and check and check fuel pressure. Was the computer new? May need to be programmed.

Car runs perfect until it shifts into overdrive....then will cut off and will NOT re-start unless the battery is disconnected (wiping the ECM, od course) It will cut off at 46MPH,,,,,55?......and 70MPH. We have eliminated, ECM, Fuel Pump, we have a perfectly tuned and running car here.....UNTIL it goes OD! Tranny shop says its not Transmission???? There are NO trouble codes present nor pending....although, once we had a Traction Contol Code briefly. Has anyone "EVER" even heard of this???

have a pro scan for codes if you used an autoparts scanner it will only pic up engine/trans codes. it may be an abs problemor another module screwing up.

This is from over 100 years of combined auto repair experience. From the most advanced shop in the area! The Snap-On Solius WOULD not detect anything. There are NO trouble codes pending.....Just wondered if anyone had ever ran across the exact same problem?? No amateurs here! LOL!

well let's see nobody said that most people we get on here are using a autoparts scanner an dtring to get body module problems taken care of. anyhow nobody has seen this least they aren't saying they have. However the trans fuse leads to the trans and the ignition module and to me it sounds like when the converter locks it's stalling the engine or taking power from the ignition module. Unless there is a wire that shorts when you hit those speeds.

Thats what we all were wondering....a wire that is! If its the harness, going to the scrap pile. However, we found out today that the customer drove on snow/ice and the Traction Light came on briefly....and then the car stopped and was towed to a garage. It was "fixed" there and the customer picked it up...made it a mile from that shop....same thing! The next step is to pull that trans. out and put a another one in. The Traction Control Solenoid/Switch is good!!!!

Thanks for your input....like I said this one is a booger bear!! But, this the sweetest running car you could ever want! We were hoping (praying!) someone had this exact problem before! If anyone has, they ain't saying!!!

Sorry for the late reply.

Make sure the throttle is closed, check and clean the idle air system and throttle body. With a high idle, block off the mouth of the throttle, see if any effect on idle, it should kill the engine, if no effect, check vacuum leak/false air.

I don't know the model year, can you check for applicable trouble codes. How long since a tune-up.

I realize this is an old post. You may no longer own this vehicle. In the future, hope you don't have any vehicle issues, but, if you do, keep the site in mind. they are always working to improve the site and it's free.
