It could deal with a stretched timing belt.

Is the Check Engine Light indicating? What was the reason for replacing the cam sensor?

Hi There,

The "service engine" light is on, the scan said the cam sensor was the reason so I had it replaced, it was OK for no more than a week or so and the same problem started all over again. I purchased a second cam sensor from the Nissan dealership in my area and the same thing happened???? After the car is running for awhile it works fine, but it takes a while for it to get going. It starts right away but sputters and coughs all over the place. Thanks

Hi There, The "Service Engine" light is on, a scan of the engine said the cam sensor was bad so I had it replace, it worked well for a week or so and the same thing started again. I purchased a second cam sensor and again it was alright for a few days and gone again. The car starts right away but when I first start it it sputters and coughs all over the place, after it's running for a while it clears up and runs smoothly. (The cam sensors I purchased were from the Nissan dealership in my area). Thanks

If the timing belt is stretched, it could cause the sensors to misread what is going on.

I had my distributor replaced and I'm not sure of the firing order of the wires. It is turning over but not starting. I think the problem may be the placement of the spark plug wires or the timing being off? Can anyone help me with a diagram of the firing order or can you tell me how to set the timing without a timing light, if possible? Thank you for any help you may be able to give me!

Good morning,

I attached pictures of setting the distributor in the correct way with the rotor.

make sure you have the engine at top dead center compression stroke. remove number 1 spark plug and hand crank the motor until you feel pressure coming out of the spark plug hole.

then match the pointer on the crank to 0 mark. then set the distributor as shown in the picture. the wires are also shown for the correct position.

The ignition timing is 0 degrees with a timing light.

The firing order is 1-3-4-2

If you are looking from the front of the car from left to right 1, 2, 3, 4 it should be on the distributor cap starting from top right plug and going clockwise 3 - 1 - 4 - 2, another web site has a differnt firing order showing 1 - 3 - 4 - 2 but I have the same engine and the first one I gave you is how my firing order is.
