I have the vehicle listed above it is the Sport model. One day while I was driving the vehicle shut off. it would crank up but would not stay running. (had to be towed). but previously it was acting up days before like it was losing power. So we bought a fuel filter that did not did not help. tested the fuel pump it works but It is not getting fire back there. Any ideas? It will crank up but only stay running for a couple of seconds or sometimes until you give it gas. Could it be the fuel relay? Please help! Thanks.

We checked the fuel pump it works by checking it direct, but we are not getting any fire back there to the fuel pump.

It cannot be the fuel pump because it works, just not working in the back because there is not any power going to the fuel pump. But recently before it quit I had a programmed key that broke and I just taped my spare an the chip together. Was thinking could that be a possibility why it might not be getting power some sort of way back there to the fuel pump. Thanks

Hi Courtney,

Yes, the chip can cause the issue. Is there a security light flashing when you try and start the car? Here is a wiring diagram of the fuel pump and engine to help us see what's going on.

I would check all system fuses here is a guide to help.

There is also a PCM relay that I would check as well.

Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

No the security light is not flashing. All the fuses seem to have power to them. They were all hot. A month before when we broke the key and tried the spare key the security light was flashing. But when we taped it around the spare key it crank right up and was driving it. However, weeks later it just shut off going down the road and now is not getting any fire to the fuel pump. Thanks for your time!

This makes me think the PCM relay can be the culprit. Can you please test for power and check the relay operation?

If the crankshaft sensor has failed it will not turn the fuel pump on. Can you turn the engine over and check for spark?

Please let us know what happens.
