1997 Plymouth Breeze rear braked

i replaced the rear brakes. I had a really hard time getting the drum back on over the new brakes... very tight fitting. The cylinder was retracted. After test driving, the wheel got really hot. I don' t think the pads are "moving" properly.

Did you retract the star self adjuster?

Yes, I did retract the star - The plungers in the cylinder were complete retracted as well.
I tried to drive the car a little way..... "smoke"!!!!

Try backing off on the parking brake adj.

I don't know how I would do that - it's just a cable connected on the bottom of the shoe.

Follow both cables up toward the brake lever you will see a threaded bod a nut back it offtill there is slack in cables. If that frees up then Adj by pulling lever 5 to 7 clicks tighten to hold car from rolling.
