heater core

1994 grand am 4cyl. 104000 miles. I need to replace the heater core. Where is it located? Do I need to pull apart the dasboard or is their a cover for it?

yes there is a panel behind the heater control panel on the dash

My experience is with a 93 Grand Am SE. On the 93 it is not necessary to pull the dashboard out, like it is on many vehicles. You must however remove the center console and the under-dash panels to access it. I replaced the heater core and it is a pain to do, but a Chilton or Hayne's service manual (the $20, vehicle specific from Auto Zone versions) is incredible helpful.
