1992 Pontiac Sunbird timing marks

Install rear cover (if removed).
Start all rear cover bolts before tightening to specification.
Ensure mating surfaces are clean, and install timing belt tensioner.
To install camshaft and crankshaft sprockets, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification.
Rotate crankshaft and camshaft clockwise to align timing marks on sprockets with marks on rear cover. Install NEW timing belt on sprockets. Ensure belt is under tension between camshaft sprocket and crankshaft sprocket.

NOTE:Adjust timing belt with engine coolant temperature at 68°F (20°C).

Using timing belt tension adjuster, rotate water pump clockwise until tensioner contacts high torque stop. Tighten water pump bolts slightly.
Using crankshaft sprocket bolt, rotate engine clockwise 2 revolutions to fully seat timing belt. Rotate water pump eccentric counterclockwise until hole in tensioner arm aligns with hole in base.
Tighten water pump bolts to specification.
Ensure tensioner holes remain aligned and timing marks are aligned.
